The results from these studies have demonstrated how people used the many and varied botanical resources available to them at various points in time, and they have shown how the landscape has been changed as a result. The studies have also demonstrated how the information we can recover about the environment and its past use depends closely on the ways in which environmental remains are preserved — as carbonised or waterlogged macrofossils or as pollen.
