Infield

The infield was the farming land immediately adjacent to the townships. This land was primarily used to produce crops, and was cultivated and manured every year. The infield was important for the residents of the townships, supplying food for their subsistence and goods to pay the rent. In addition to the archaeology carried out across the infield area, soil analysis work was also carried out at Balnreich.
